WM083-15 Technology Management and Innovation
Introductory description
This module looks at the role and value of innovation and technology in the business. It addresses how to manage innovation and technology at both a strategic and operational level in a business. It will also consider how to select and apply appropriate frameworks and techniques for identifying, assessing and delivering technological change at an acceptable risk.
Module aims
The aim of this module is to provide an understanding of innovation and the role that technology management plays in achieving innovation.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- Examine the relationship between innovation and competitive performance and assess the business ‘conditions’ for innovation
- Critically examine the role of technology in contributing to and supporting innovation
- Appraise and develop technology strategies to support robust business decision-making
- Select and apply technology planning approaches and techniques (e.g. road mapping, technology auditing)
- Understand and apply a holistic framework for the effective management of technologies
