Introductory description

The independent study module will focus on a specific topic prescribed by the module tutor and will be studie via a series of seminars and tutorials. Engaging with much close visual analysis, a range of scholarly literature and undertaking some independent research, students will explore the topic in order to produce an assessed essay of 3000 words based on the student's independent research and analysis of a chosen single example of art or architecture.

Module aims

The aim of this module is to allow students to undertake independent research under guidance from a supervisor into a prescribed topic that her or his programme of learning and skills qualifies her or him for. It aims to encourage research skills, the critical application of methodology, and independent thinking.
