WM169-15 Planning Personal and Professional Development (APEP)
Introductory description
This module is designed to support students at level 4 to plan and apply their personal and professional development in line with some of the key behavioural elements outlined in the degree apprenticeship standard as part of their work-based learning on programme. The module will help students to identify and develop those behavioural aspects that will enable them to perform effectively in their working environment and seek to identify and develop gaps through reflective practice and feedback. The overriding purpose is for the students to develop and apply in the work-place, a highly valued set of occupational behaviours that will ensure success for their current and future roles and that will contribute to the achievement of their employer’s overall company objectives.
Module aims
To introduce learners to the concept of work-based learning and taking responsibility for driving their own personal and professional development in the context of their employment and/or profession and beginning their journey to becoming a reflective practitioner in order to enhance their performance in their current and future roles.
Outline syllabus
This is an indicative module outline only to give an indication of the sort of topics that may be covered. Actual sessions held may differ.
Working effectively in Groups: communication, negotiation and teamwork. Criticality: logical approach, problem solving and critical thinking. Professionalism: work ethics and commitment. Safety mindset and quality focus. Personal Development: self-awareness, self-development and learning, personal motivation, personal responsibility, and self-resilience.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
- Develop experiential learning and personal development opportunities based on a set of occupational behaviours covered in this module (and as identified in the apprenticeship standard document)
- Demonstrate the ability to manage and deliver tasks in the workplace
- Engage with reflective practice based on concepts learned and work-based task delivery
- Present personal and professional development in a professional discussion
